Basmati rice, one of the most popular rice varieties in the world, also known as the queen of rice. Basmati rice is a variety of aromatic long grain slender rice, famous for its fragrance and delicate flavour. Pure form of Basmati rice are mainly  grown in the Himalaya regions of India and Pakistan, its name comes from "fragnance or aroma" in Sanskrit, but it can also mean the "soft rice".  The grains of basmati rice are longer than non-basmati varieties. Cooked grains of Basmati rice are very much free flowing rather than sticky. Basmati rice can be uniquely identified by its fragrance and pure aroma. Basmati rice is available in two varieties - white rice and brown rice.

Basmati Rice is used for the following
1.  Used in Rice Pulav
2.  Used in the Biryani (Mutton, Chicken, Fish, Hyderabadi, Sindhi)
3.  Makes excellent plain boiled rice
4.  Not very good for puddings, burgers or any dish where the rice is not displayed whole. For such dishes parboiled rice or short grained rice is preferred.
